TODAY'S FORECAST FOR AMARILLO
Friday, August 29, 2008
Today's forecast
Partly Cloudy with Isolated Thunderstorms
89° | 64°
"Cooler" is always a relative term, especially during the Summer months. Well, we will see afternoon high temperatures on Friday that are somewhat "cooler" than we witnessed on Thursday, but not by much! In fact, instead of high temperatures mainly in the 90s, we will see highs on TGI Friday that will range from 85-92 degrees. See what I mean? Well, at least the winds will be blowing from the northeast in the morning at speeds averaging 5-15 mph before shifting around to the southeast in the afternoon at the same average speeds under partly cloudy skies. Just like what we witnessed on Thursday, we may see a few isolated late afternoon showers and t-storms. Average rainfall amounts from the showers and t-storms will vary from .10 to .33 of an inch with isolated, heavier totals upwards of .75 of an inch with the stronger t-storms.
TONIGHT
Tonight's forecast
Partly Cloudy with Isolated Thunderstorms
64°
Friday night high school football kicks off for many schools in the region and the weather will be fantastic for the majority of us. (See forecast below!) Skies will be mostly clear to partly cloudy all night long with overnight low temperatures dropping to the 61-69 degree range by sunrise Saturday. Winds will blow from the east and southeast at speeds averaging 5-15 mph, making for ideal football conditions! There may be a few isolated evening showers or thunderstorms that roam the High Plains, but most of us will stay dry. As soon as the sun goes down, so will the intensity and coverage of the showers and t-storms and they will dissipate an hour or so after sunset. ***FRIDAY NIGHT HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL FORECAST!*** The weather should be "beautiful" for most of the first games of the 2008 High School Football season! Skies will be mostly clear to partly cloudy throughout the games with kickoff temperatures in the 81-86 degree range and falling back to the 72-78 degree range by the 4th quarter. Winds will be pretty "light" by High Plains standards and blow from the east and southeast at speeds averaging 5-15 mph throughout the game. Get out and enjoy this weather as by the time the season ends in early November, the weather will NOT be this "nice!"
TOMORROW'S FORECAST FOR AMARILLO
Saturday, August 30, 2008
Tomrrow's forecast
Partly Cloudy
87° | 63°
The first full day of the Labor Day Weekend should be very "seasonal" with afternoon highs warming to the 84-91 degree range by late day...nearly exactly what is considered "normal" for our daily high temperatures this time of the year. Skies will be mostly sunny Saturday morning before becoming partly cloudy during the afternoon. Winds will blow from the southeast at speeds averaging 10-20 mph.
TOMORROW NIGHT: Mostly Clear
63°
It should be pretty quiet Saturday night into the early morning hours on Sunday...so if your Labor Day Weekend plans include a camping trip or anything outdoors, you shouldn't have any problems at all. Overnight low temperatures will drop to the 60-69 degree range by sunrise Sunday as southeasterly winds blow at speeds averaging 5-15 mph throughout the night.
EXTENDED FORECAST FOR AMARILLO
Sunday, August 31, 200864° | 86°
We will see an increase in cloud cover on Sunday as an upper-level storm system passes us by to the north. Skies will be partly to occasionally mostly cloudy on Sunday with a few isolated showers and t-storms expected. Not all of us will see the rainfall, but those lucky High Plains residents who do will see average rainfall amounts varying from .15 to .40 of an inch with isolated, heavier totals upwards of 1 inch with the stronger t-storms. High temperatures will warm to the 83-90 degree range by late day Sunday with winds blowing from the south and southeast at speeds averaging 10-20 mph throughout the day.
Monday, September 01, 200864° | 88°
Labor Day 2008, the "unofficial end of Summer", should be a fairly nice day for the High Plains as most of the day will feature mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies. After 3pm (CDT), we will see isolated to widely scattered showers and t-storms develop that might put a damper on your outdoor activities, so have a "Plan B" around just in case! Average rainfall amounts from the showers and t-storms will vary from .20 to .50 of an inch with isolated, heavier totals upwards of 1 inch with the stronger t-storms. Winds will blow from the south at speeds averaging 10-20 mph, but winds will be variable and quite gusty both in and near the showers and t-storms! High temperatures will warm to the 85-93 degree range by late day.
