TODAY'S FORECAST FOR AMARILLO Friday, July 04, 2008 |
 |
Partly Cloudy 91° | 66° |
|
The 4th of July shouldn't have too many weather problems to deal with at all as upper-level high pressure starts to move back overhead and our rain chances will be minimal again. Now, minimal doesn't mean totally gone! In the afternoon heat and humidity, a few, "isolated" showers and t-storms could push through the layer of warm air aloft that we know as the "cap" or "lid" and drop a quick .10 to .25 of an inch of rain with isolated, heavier totals upwards of .75 of an inch with the stronger t-storms! I wouldn't let this cancel your outdoor plans as most of us will stay dry and hot as afternoon highs reach the 90-96 degree range by late day. Winds will blow from the south and southwest at speeds averaging 10-20 mph.

TONIGHT |
 |
Partly Cloudy 66° |
|
Isolated showers and t-storms will continue to rumble Friday evening before decreasing and dissipating around Midnight. Average rainfall amounts will vary from .15 to .33 of an inch with isolated, heavier totals upwards of .66 of an inch with the t-storms. Partly to mostly cloudy skies Friday evening will become mostly clear to partly cloudy after Midnight. Overnight lows will drop to the 62-71 degree range by sunrise Saturday as southerly to southeasterly winds blow at speeds averaging 5-15 mph.

TOMORROW'S FORECAST FOR AMARILLO Saturday, July 05, 2008 |
 |
Mostly Sunny 96° | 67° |
| The "stationary" frontal boundary will be on full retreat as a warm front on Saturday as the upper-level ridge of high pressure rebuilds over the region. What this means for you and me is a return to "hot and dry" weather with no rain chances at all. So, expect mostly sunny skies Saturday morning to become partly cloudy in the afternoon with high temperatures easily reaching the 92-100 degree range. Winds will blow from the south and southwest at speeds averaging 10-20 mph in the morning before increasing to the 15-25 mph average range in the afternoon with some gusts as high as 35-40 mph by the afternoon. |
TOMORROW NIGHT: Mostly Clear 67° |
| Very "typical" July weather can be expected Saturday evening into the early morning hours on Sunday as upper-level high pressure continues to keep any rainfall from developing. So, mostly clear skies will prevail with overnight lows dropping only to the 64-70 degree range by sunrise Sunday. Southerly to southwesterly winds will blow at speeds averaging 10-20 mph throughout the night. |

EXTENDED FORECAST FOR AMARILLO |
| Sunday, July 06, 200867° | 93° |
| Get ready for more heat on Sunday! Thanks to upper-level high pressure centered to our west, we can expect sunny skies Sunday morning that will become mostly sunny to partly cloudy when a few "fair weather" cumulus clouds develop in the afternoon heat and humidity. Speaking of which, afternoon high temperatures will soar to the 90-98 degree range by late day. Southerly to southwesterly winds will blow at speeds averaging 10-20 mph in the morning before increasing to the 15-25 mph range with a few gusts upwards of 35-40 mph possible during the afternoon hours. |
